Lilia is a French and Tunisian Director Of Photography and Camera Operator.
From a very young age, she became familiar with the creative process using pictures. She enters film sets, first as an extra and later as a camera trainee and discovers the amazing possibility of telling stories and emotion with using a camera. Lilia then decided to make it her career and went on to study film making in France, Graduating in 1998.
She started working as a camera assistant on project like ‘Star Wars – episode 1’ and collaborates with directors such as Sophie Marceau, Bernardo Bertolucci, Cédric Klapisch, David Mackenzie or Deepa Mehta.She quickly went on to work at an international level travelling the world and shooting authors movies as well as commercial projects.
Based in North Africa since 2003, Lilia has collaborated as well with Moroccan and Tunisian directors. Her unique look, vision and lighting style got her involved on project treating about the social Arabic issues as a female cinematographer.
In marge of her evolution in the film industry, Lilia is developing her personal work around still photography. She likes to give her personal approach and views on her surrounding environment.
In “Vues sur mer”, she captures the same sea landscape at different moment of the day and these vertical views offer a large panel of emotion and make us think in an introspecting way our relationship to time and movement.
In “Boxe,” she enters the closed atmosphere of the boxing Moroccan world and by the using of both documentary style and a plastic exploration of the bodies she enhances the feeling of emergency that is detectable in the boxers lives. Sport seems to be there only exit gate to success.
Lilia is also exploring the volumes and perspective, treating with architectural photography and experience a different way of telling the space. She offers her version of the Casablanca tramway designed by Youssef Nejmi and explores the creativity of Racardo Boffil for his school of excellence l’Emine in Benguerir.

Dès son enfance, elle entre en contact avec les plateaux de tournage en tant que figurante puis stagiaire. Elle se familiarise très tôt avec le processus de création par l’image et découvre le potentiel créatif infini qu’offre une caméra. Elle décide d’en faire son métier en préparant un « BTS audiovisuel, option image » en France qu'elle obtient en 1998. Elle a la chance alors d’effectuer un stage à l’image sur "Star Wars episod one", puis devient assistante caméra aux côtés de réalisateurs de renom tels que Bernardo Bertolucci, Cédric Klapisch et Sophie Marceau.
Ses compétences l’amènent à exercer rapidement son métier à un niveau international en travaillant sur des projets d’auteurs aussi bien que des superproductions en Afrique, Europe, Asie. Installée au Maroc depuis 2006, Lilia Sellami intègre les équipes de tournages internationaux, mais s’implique aussi affectivement et artistiquement dans le cinéma marocain en tant que directrice de la photographie sur des longs métrages et docmentaires qui traitent des problématiques propres aux pays arabes.

Dans « vues sur mers », elle capture le même paysage marin à différents moments de la journée et ses visions verticales offrent un large panel d’émotions. Elle y saisit une manière introspective de penser la relation du temps et du mouvement.
Dans « Boxe », son regard pénètre le monde fermé de la boxe au Maroc. En utilisant à la fois une approche documentaire et une exploration plastique des corps, elle donne à voir la force et l’urgence des enjeux sociaux qu’impliquent les combats.
Par ses photos d’architecture, Lilia explore les volumes et les perspectives comme une autre façon de raconter l’espace. Elle offre sa version du « tramway » de Casablanca réalisé par Youssef Nejmi et visite l’univers créatif de Ricardo Boffil pour l’école d’Emine, pôle d’excellence de Benguérir.
